NaMoPaiMo Saddle Pads

Since February is over, I decided to sew some saddle pads to donate for prizes. Saddle pads take a while to make, but today I finished my schoolwork early.

I found out that NaMoPaiMo will just fit on a saddle pad. Its been really rainy outside so today I’ve just been sewing... all day....

Well in the end I made 6 saddle pads. I’m going to send them off to be prizes for NaMoPaiMo! I just have to package them up.

Look at the new logo that I drew! My old one was a bit outdated, so today I decided to change that.

Embroidery Machine

A week ago I bought an embroidery machine. It came yesterday and I had so much fun learning how to use it! In case your wondering, this is the Brother SE 600 embroidery and sewing machine.

The first thing that I HAD to try out was custom saddle pads! First I quilted some fabric,

... then after a bit of trial and error I managed to embroider a name! It took trial and error to line up the fabric with the lettering but now that i've got it, I can't wait to embroider more things!

Donut Bareback pad

Today I wanted to try and sew something new so I made a bareback pad! This was my first one and it took MANY tries. Well at least I had something to do for an hour! First I made a basic pattern and traced it on a piece of black fabric.

Next I cut out a piece of thin batting. This batting is really thin so I use it in my saddle pads.

Then I sewed around the shape and cut it out.

After I sewed it around I then flipped it inside out. This was the hardest part for me because I kept on ripping it or I made the pattern too small.

Too small!😂

This is how the bareback pad looks now. I added the donut fabric and a ribbon to use as the girth.

Here it is on a horse:

I think that I will continue sewing different pads until I get the perfect one. Well at least now I can check bareback pad off the list! ✓

Horse Blanket

Hello! I have been so busy caring for Benji and with school that I have not been able to do much. Today I decided to try and sew a model horse blanket! Using a piece of scrap I cut out a blanket shape.

I made sure that my blanket fit on my horse. I know that this fabric is a bit out of scale, but this was my first blanket so I knew that it would not really matter.

This is how my blanket turned out. I was surprised at how well I did, Although it will need some cleaning up I think that this is fairly good for my first one.

Now I just need a way to make it close...

In case your wondering Benji is doing well. He did not need stitches and his cut is healing.

For the mean time he is stuck with the cone of shame.

We wrapped him in a bandage to cover the cut.

My Journey of Riding Jackets

I have sewn so many riding jackets that I am getting a bit sick of making them. I am trying to make a pattern that makes a good looking jacket. I know how to sew one but I just can't figure out how to make them more fitted. So lets start at the beginning. One of my first posts was about this jacket. It came out decent but I just didn't know how to sew on the sleeves.
I made it my cutting apart a Breyer jacket and making a pattern from that. This is what my patterns are based on.
Stored in one of my bins is a bag of all my jackets. I don't really know why I save them, I guess because they took so much time and effort that I just didn't want to throw them away.
This jacket is the first one that  ever did.
This one came out good but I made it way too small. 😕

Now this is a funny story. I wanted to try and not have to hem it so I covered the ends with some fabric glue like the hay bags tutorial on desktop stables. Well that did not work out, The paper on the other side got stuck to the fabric and it was just a big mess.

I guess I am still trying to make the perfect pattern. I probably will read this post when I'm older and laugh at all of my fails. (This is not even half of them) I promise once I make the best pattern I will post a tutorial, so stay tuned!

So Very Very BORED!

As you might know I recently bought some thin leather. I guess luck was not on my side because it still hasn't come! Due to social distancing I have not been to any camps in a while. Normally I would be exited for these hours of free time a day, but with no leather I can't make any tack! It has been torture to have all the supplies, and free time but with no leather. So I have been desperate these past few days of entertaining myself.

I made some model horse cookies, and I made so many saddle pads. After making like 20 saddle pads I got a little bored of that too. So using some extra felt and a buckle I made my dog, Benji a tie!

He looks quite handsome in his new tie!

So that is what I have been doing for the past few days. The reason I haven't posted in almost a week is that I have literally been doing NOTHING! Although it has been tough I have really been thinking out of the box to learn to make model horse tack with no leather or buckles. I promise to post as soon as the leather comes!

More and MORE Saddle Pads!

Now i'm sure that you guys are all wondering why I didn't post on three days! well that's because I was busy making this one saddle pad!

I know that saddle pads look easy to make ( that's what I thought too) but they are HARD.

I had to make 10 different saddle pads until I was satisfied. The trick here is to glue on the border first, and then sew it on. This makes a even edge all around.

Hair! Part One

I grew so sick of trying to manage the wild jumble of hair that I decided to just hack it off and add new hair.

I know that it might look weird now, but I hope that it will look better later.

Surprisingly her hair is only going around the head once!

Headless doll!

I used these pliers that I used to pull out her hair and all of the glue.

I guess now I have to sew her another riding jacket!
