My Journey of Riding Jackets

I have sewn so many riding jackets that I am getting a bit sick of making them. I am trying to make a pattern that makes a good looking jacket. I know how to sew one but I just can't figure out how to make them more fitted. So lets start at the beginning. One of my first posts was about this jacket. It came out decent but I just didn't know how to sew on the sleeves.
I made it my cutting apart a Breyer jacket and making a pattern from that. This is what my patterns are based on.
Stored in one of my bins is a bag of all my jackets. I don't really know why I save them, I guess because they took so much time and effort that I just didn't want to throw them away.
This jacket is the first one that  ever did.
This one came out good but I made it way too small. 😕

Now this is a funny story. I wanted to try and not have to hem it so I covered the ends with some fabric glue like the hay bags tutorial on desktop stables. Well that did not work out, The paper on the other side got stuck to the fabric and it was just a big mess.

I guess I am still trying to make the perfect pattern. I probably will read this post when I'm older and laugh at all of my fails. (This is not even half of them) I promise once I make the best pattern I will post a tutorial, so stay tuned!

Customized Doll Arms

The other day I was reading the old post by Anne Field from Field Of Dolls Studio about making doll arms. So I went on amazon and bought some wire and medical tape. My mom and dad are both doctors, but surprisingly we did not have any medical tape. So I ripped off her arms, my doll did look a bit  weird .

With the top part of the arm cut off she looked like she had really short arms!

I just followed the tutorial and she now looks like this:

I know her arms may look skinny but with a shirt and jacket on you won't be able to notice ( Hopefully!). The wire on the inside makes it so much easier to bend and stay.

Hair! Part Two

Guess what came in the mail... my hair! I bought my hair from the Doll Planet Hair on Etsy. I really liked how smooth is felt! I want to thank Anne from Field Of Dolls Studio, I followed her examples of dolls so check it out!

I bought a thing of hair, 8 needles, and a tool to take out the extra hair.

Here is my doll before rerooting.

Here is her after. I only rerooted the back of her head since I'm going to glue on her helmet anyways.

Here is her about to get boiled washed! I will make sure to show you guys the results soon!

Speaking of hair because of this pandemic I can't go to the hair cutter, so my mom decided to cut my hair for me. We already had hair scissors but we had to buy this funny looking bib- like thing to catch my hair. I told my mom to cut my hair about a inch but that turned into three inches. After almost an hour of sitting I was done.

I like how my mom cut my hair in layers but we will never be as good as a professional haircutter! 😀

Hair! Part One

I grew so sick of trying to manage the wild jumble of hair that I decided to just hack it off and add new hair.

I know that it might look weird now, but I hope that it will look better later.

Surprisingly her hair is only going around the head once!

Headless doll!

I used these pliers that I used to pull out her hair and all of the glue.

I guess now I have to sew her another riding jacket!

Making A Riding Jacket Part 3

I finally finished the jacket! It took me a while to learn how to attach the sleeves, but after reading some other blogs I learned how. I made the jacket way to wide in the shoulders so I will have to make it again but other than that I think that it looks pretty good!

I didn’t add buttons yet, but I’m thinking of just adding Velcro.

The back is made out of 3 different pieces, and that’s what takes me the most time.

Inside there is a green collar, and a jumble of strings and seams.

Rider Hair Spa

Today I decided to take my rider to the hair spa! Her hair was all frizzy and bent, so I decided to fix that.

First I filled a small bowl with hot water (I used a soy sauce bowl!)

Next I dipped her hair into the hot water for about ten seconds.

Then I brushed it out until it was straight.

Making a Riding Jacket Part 2

I'm almost done making my riding jacket. all that I have to do now is add the sleeves. It was fairly easy, although it took me about 4 hours just to get this far.... Well I'm satisfied with it so far!

The front took me the most time. I probably had to re cut the pieces like five times. But I think that is turned out well.

The back it made up of three pieces.

The outside may look good, but the inside is a jumble of strings and seams!

Making a Riding Jacket part 1

Today I started to make a riding jacket for my Breyer rider.
I decided to make it out of navy blue canvas to give it that realistic look.

First I took the previous jacket and took all of the stitches out. that way I could easily trace them and make a pattern. I was a bit hesitant at first but I decided to try.( Sorry Jacket)

After I made a pattern, I started to cut out the pieces. I had to do multiple try's to get the perfect piece.
Then I sewed them together while looking at a reference photo.

This is what I have so far.

I will hopefully finish the jacket tomorrow.
